The Role

Drama & Public Speaking Teachers play a central role in our academic and performance programs. You will teach Drama, Dramatic Interpretation, and Public Speaking to motivated students aged 9-18, helping them build confidence, creativity, and strong communication skills.

Your work will lead to live stage performances, allowing students to apply their learning in authentic, high-profile settings. This role combines classroom teaching, performance coaching, and production support, making it ideal for educators who thrive in creative, student-centered environments.

You will be primarily based in Shanghai, with regular travel to Nanjing and Hangzhou, and occasional assignments in other nearby cities within the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach drama, acting, and performance fundamentals, including:

    • Character development

    • Voice, movement, and stage presence

  • Deliver B2B classes that culminate in a final stage performance

  • Teach B2C classes in: Drama, Dramatic Interpretation, Public Speaking

  • Support and oversee: Costume creation and Stage design and basic technical theater elements

  • Coach students for performances, showcases, and competitions

  • Travel regularly to teach classes as part of your professional responsibilities

  • Encourage self-expression, collaboration, and creative risk-taking

Our Program

Our ENREACH Drama Program takes a holistic, project-based approach to theater education. Students are involved from concept to curtain call.

  • Curriculum aligned with the American National Core Arts Theater Standards

  • Instruction in: Directing, Playwriting, Technical theater (costumes, make-up, scenery, lighting, sound)

  • All courses conclude with a final public performance

  • Participation in Educational Theatre Association national and international festivals

  • Opportunities for involvement in:

    • Drama festivals

    • Local and national competitions

Your Typical Schedule

This full-time role involves a five-day workweek, including Saturdays and Sundays, with two days off scheduled between Monday and Friday. You'll balance classroom instruction with dedicated time for lesson planning and student support. Instructors teach all levels, leading to the annual tournament, fostering growth and learning.

  • Spring & Fall: Teach up to 20 hours per week, balancing weekday B2B courses at our partner schools with weekend classes at the center.

  • Winter & Summer Camps: Focus on center-based teaching, with up to 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Job requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (ideally in Drama or Theater)

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching drama, theater, or public speaking

  • Comfortable working with students aged 9–18

  • Willingness to travel regularly for teaching assignments

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience teaching debate

  • Knowledge of WSDA / NSDA competition formats

  • Experience with Interpretation & Original Oratory
