Job description

Wuxi Dipont School of Arts and Science (in partnership with King's College School, Wimbledon and Nanjing Foreign Language School) is seeking to appoint a Teacher of Humanities (History and Philosophy) to join their Scholastic Excellence Research Center for an August 2025 start. 


The Scholastic Excellence Research Center is seeking a passionate and dynamic Humanities Teacher specializing in History and Philosophy. As a Humanities Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality education to students, fostering critical thinking, and promoting an understanding of historical events and philosophical ideas. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the intellectual growth of students and contribute to an enriching academic environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development & Instruction:
    Design and implement engaging lesson plans for History and Philosophy, ensuring alignment with the center's educational standards and goals. Deliver lessons that encourage intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and thoughtful discussion.
  • Student Assessment & Feedback:
    Evaluate student progress through various assessment methods, including essays, exams, and discussions. Provide constructive feedback and guidance to help students improve their understanding and academic skills.
  • Classroom Management:
    Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages respectful debate, collaborative learning, and intellectual development. Manage student behavior effectively and maintain discipline in accordance with the center’s policies.
  • Research & Enrichment Activities:
    Encourage students to explore independent research topics within the fields of History and Philosophy. Support extracurricular activities such as history clubs, debates, or philosophy discussion groups to enhance students' understanding beyond the classroom.
  • Collaboration & Professional Development:
    Work closely with fellow educators and academic coordinators to refine teaching strategies and ensure the continuous development of the curriculum. Participate in professional development opportunities and stay current with educational trends and developments in your field.
  • Student Support:
    Provide academic support and guidance to students, offering tutoring or office hours as needed to help students succeed. Address students' academic and personal development concerns with care and professionalism.

Job requirements

About you

  • A Master's degree in History, Philosophy, Humanities, or a related field is required. Teaching certification is preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience in History and Philosophy at the high school or university level is preferred. 
  • A strong passion for the subjects and a commitment to fostering academic excellence is essential.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to inspire students and foster a passion for the humanities.
  • Knowledge of diverse historical periods, philosophical traditions, and key figures.
  • Familiarity with modern teaching methodologies and educational technologies.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
