Job description

Dipont Education is seeking an Academic Quality Manager (Physics) to be based in our head office in Shanghai, China. The start date for the position is August 2025.


Summary:

Academic Quality Managers (AQMs) are appointed to support and ensure consistency of specific subject areas. They also respond to particular emergency situations within Dipont’s international curriculum centers and independent schools involving their subject area.

This role will be based in Dipont’s Shanghai head office but will operate with a company-wide responsibility especially with regards to their subject specialism (Physics). They will be line managed by the Deputy Academic Director.


Responsibilities and duties:

The role of the AQM for Physics involves the following areas:

Assessment of quality

  • Undertake early probation and full lesson observations to ensure consistent quality of teaching and learning across all centers.

  • Be available to receive samples of marked papers from subject teachers if requested by the center principal in order to assess teachers’ marking with regards to accuracy and quality of feedback (formative).

  • Provide written feedback on the quality of assessment to the relevant deputy director, center principal and individual subject teachers.

Professional development

  • Keep up-to-date with current educational developments, both subject-specific and general pedagogy.

  • Undertake regular personal CPD training.

  • Research, develop and deliver CPD training for centers.

  • Play a major role in Dipont’s annual conference program.

Support for colleagues

  • Offer advice/support to subject teachers via email, telephone or face-to-face.

Resources

  • Prepare, collect and coordinate a bank of subject resources and disseminate to teachers as required.

Assessment

  • Be available for advice and checks, if requested, on standardized tests, mock exams and associated marking schemes within Physics for use across all centers.

  • Provide advice and support as necessary to centers compiling other assessment instruments during the course of the year.

Meetings

  • Attend regular coordination meetings with the deputy director as required.

  • Prepare and coordinate subject panel groups and/or subject meetings.

Other

  • Provide emergency cover within their subject area where required.

  • Seek opportunities to develop inter-center competitions/challenges for students studying Physics. Extend this concept to promote the entry of Dipont students into international competitions where feasible.

  • Provide support and training to Dipont’s independent schools when necessary.

Job requirements

Person specification

  • Qualified Teacher Status/certification.

  • Experienced practitioner with an excellent track record of results.

  • Experienced at teaching a minimum of one externally examined syllabus in the specific subject area, either Cambridge, IB or Advanced Placement.

  • Previous management experience preferable, either head of department, or role of whole school responsibility.

  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Adaptable, resourceful and able to travel extensively.
